Specialist fine wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has hired Rob Symington to be its UK managing director.
Symington, who joins from Portugal-based family business Symington Family Estates, will report into BB&R CEO Emma Fox.
As co-CEO of SFE, Symington “oversaw commercial strategy, sales & marketing, wine tourism, people & culture and sustainability”, said BB&R. He will continue to serve as a non-executive director for the business and in his role as chair of Hambledon Wine Estate, which is jointly owned by SFE and BB&R.
“I have known Rob for a number of years, having worked together on projects such as our acquisition of Hambledon Wine Estate,” said Fox. “Rob is a creative and strategic leader and he’ll be a fantastic addition to our business.
“This appointment shows our commitment to strengthening our leadership team with exceptional people to help our business grow and to meet our future ambitions.”
Symington added: “I have huge admiration for Berry Bros & Rudd – a family business which combines the best of British heritage with a thoroughly modern and dynamic outlook. I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the team.”
It comes after BB&R CCO Natalie Tennent left the business to become the new managing director at The Whisky Exchange last month.
SFE, meanwhile, has announced five members of the fifth generation of its family will step into new leadership roles within the business.
Charlotte, Harry, Anthony, Vicky and Teresa Symington would work alongside joint managing directors Rupert and Charles to steer the business in the years ahead, it said.
