The ‘strengthened leadership team’ would continue to ‘champion’ the market’s core values of sustainability, education and community, as it targets its next stage of growth, the board said.

Borough Market has appointed Alistair Maddox as its new CEO, as the London food hotspot targets further growth.

Maddox, who has 20 years’ experience running some of the capital’s other top market locations, will begin his new role on 1 September.

He will replace former CEO Jane Swift who left the market in April.

Also joining alongside Maddox is Nicole Casey, who is returning as director of operations, to lead the day to day running of the market. Casey will work closely with the market’s now more than 100 traders, local community and partners.

It marks the culmination of a “rigorous selection process” by Borough Market’s board of trustees, who run the market as a charitable trust. The “strengthened leadership team” would continue to “champion” the market’s core values of sustainability, education and community, as it targets its next stage of growth, the board said.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Alistair and Nicole to Borough Market,” said Shane Holland, Borough Market chair of trustees.

“This is a strong, values-led team, perfectly placed to guide the market through our next strategic phase – to develop our position as a cultural and culinary landmark rooted in our charitable purpose.”
