Potato supplier Branston has teamed up with Tesco to launch two new ready-to-cook products under the retailer’s own label.
Chilled cheesy Maris Piper chips topped with grated mozzarella and cheese sauce (rsp: £2.50/440g) and sweet potato fries (rsp: £2.50/300g) went on sale in more than 750 Tesco and Tesco Express stores yesterday (30 April).
The sweet potato fries come in a clear plastic tray, while the cheesy chips come in an ovenproof foil tray that goes straight into the oven.
“The convenience sector is growing as a whole and we’re seeing consumers’ demands being heavily influenced by social media and restaurant trends, such as the growing popularity of premium burger restaurants and ‘loaded fries’ at American-style diners,” said head of category at Branston Penny Francis.
“It’s no secret that cooking from scratch is high on the agenda for shoppers today, but customer behaviour is showing that there’s a need to balance this with a need for relaxed indulgence too. These products allow customers to emulate the taste of eating out with the convenience of ready prepared food that you just pop in the oven. The fact that these products are fresh rather than frozen should appeal to both young and middle-aged shoppers.”
