Over a million units of the Nemo potato will be available this season, equivalent to 87% more stock compared with 2024

Branston has announced the ‘ultimate roast potato’ is back on supermarket shelves in the face of high consumer demand.

Over a million units of the Nemo potato will be available this season, equivalent to 87% more stock compared with 2024.

It has gained popularity due to its taste and the 25% reduced cooking time compared with a typical variety, Branston said.

Developed by the potato supplier, the Nemo potato is a cross between an Inca Bella and the red-skinned Franceline.

It was named Nemo because its pink and white toned stripes are reminiscent of the cartoon character.

Branston has supported its growers in selecting the right land to deliver the volume, which represents an uplift of 16 times the units of previous years.

Additionally, factory processes have had to accommodate the increased interest, with distribution managed across all three of its sites in Lincoln, Somerset and Perth.

“We’re delighted to be scaling up Nemo so that more shoppers can enjoy this fantastic variety,” said Lucia Washbrook, sales & marketing director at Branston. “Consumers are increasingly looking for convenience, and Nemo delivers on both taste and practicality.

“With a reduced cooking time, it’s a potato that not only offers a great eating experience but also meets the needs of busy households.”
