The British Retail Consortium's Technical Standard is one of the first food safety standards to be accredited by a new international benchmarking scheme. The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) judged the standard, along with three other food safety standards, to be compliant with its benchmarking guidance document.
As well as the BRC standard, the EFSIS standard, the Dutch HACCP Code and the International Standard for Auditing Food Suppliers (International Food Standard) all met the key elements' of the benchmarking initiative, compiled by an international task force of more than 50 retailer quality managers.
Each will appear on the GFSI's database, FoodSupplyLine.
