Sir; re the letter last week from from CS Warden, non-executive director of Castle MacLellan.
I am very pleased to see that the launch of our new range (The Grocer, April 19, p53) attracted a reaction from our competition, always a good sign, and would like to thank Warden for the extended opportunity to talk about our company.
Madrange, with seven factories, is the top selling pâté brand in France. Madrange operates on a Europe-wide level, unlike some of our competitors, and is therefore able to compare the British pâté market to that of several other countries.
My comments about Brussels' and Ardennes' heavy presence are also backed by TNS data.
My point was to explain that the British pâté sector is an own label led market where brand penetration is decreasing 7% in value year-on-year to just account for 23% of the total when the own label penetration is growing by 13% to reach 77% [TNS data Jan 2003].
Madrange's ambition is to use its European expertise to help raise brands' profile in the pâté category.
