Scottish alcohol-free beer brand Brulo has debuted a brew that delivers 5g of dietary fibre per can.
All Good IPA was “the world’s first beer to meet the official threshold for a high-in-fibre claim”, said Brulo.
The 0.5% abv brew, which has launched via DTC (rsp: £2.62/330ml) contains more fibre than a bowl of porridge, two slices of wholemeal toast, or a medium banana.
It was developed to tackle Britain’s “quiet fibre problem” Brulo said, noting that 96% of UK adults failed to hit their recommended daily fibre intake of 30g, increasing their risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and bowel cancer.
“Beer has always been the thing your body forgives you for,” said Brulo founder James Brown. “We thought it was time beer started giving something back.
“All Good IPA is a properly hoppy West Coast IPA that delivers more fibre than your breakfast. It tastes like the beer you want to drink and works like the food your body actually needs.”
The launch caps 12 months of recipe development for Brulo. Getting 5g of soluble fibre “into a hop-forward IPA without losing aroma or freshness was harder than it sounds”, the brewer said.
The main challenge was “ensuring the fibre survived the brewing and packaging process intact”, it explained.
Meanwhile, Brulo also had to run “forced ageing trials” to ensure the fibre remained stable over the shelf life of the beer.
The result was a beer that “pours like an IPA, drinks like an IPA, and works like a fibre supplement”, it added.
It comes after Brulo raised over £1m to accelerate its growth earlier this year.
