Burger King has jumped on the boom for fried chicken with the launch of Crispy Chicken Tenders.
Made with 100% chicken breast, the tenders are coated in a seasoned crumb and are available in three-piece, five-piece and eight-piece sharing boxes from £5.99.
Speaking at the Lunch food-to-go conference, Burger King CEO Alasdair Murdoch said: “We’re jumping in on the trend that everyone else is doing. We sold 40,000 to 50,000 units, an awful lot of tenders, by day two.”
Alongside the tenders, the burger chain has launched a new range of exclusive dips in BK Flame-Grilled Mayo, Spicy Smokehouse Ketchup and BBQ Mayo.
The Crispy Chicken Tenders and dips are available nationwide in restaurants, via the Burger King app and delivery.
It’s not the only fast food chain betting on the UK fried chicken market, which KFC estimates to be worth £3.1bn. This figure is expected to grow further as consumer demand for fried chicken continues to outstrip all other QSR categories.
Last year, pizza giant Domino’s entered the fried chicken market with the launch of its Chick ‘N’ Dip brand, while Pizza Express launched Mac & Wings, a delivery-first mac & cheese and chicken concept.
A raft of US-born fried chicken chains have also been expanding across the UK, including Dave’s Hot Chicken, Wingstop and Popeyes. At the end of the year, US fast-casual chain Raising Cane’s, which has become a viral sensation on TikTok in recent years, is also set to enter the UK market with a flagship site in London’s Piccadilly Circus.
