Simon Rollings and Ben Franks

Franks (r) will take over as CEO from Rollings (l) from next month

Canned wine Group has confirmed the appointment of co-founder Ben Franks as its chief executive.

Franks, who founded Canned Wine Group alongside Simon Rollings in 2019, will take over from Rollings in the CEO role from next month.

He would be charged with strengthening the supplier’s UK sales infrastructure, growing its market share and expanding the wider canned wine category, Canned Wine Group said.

Rollings will transition to the role of executive chair to focus on “long-term market strategy, governance, funding and building a world-class board”.

Via branded propositions Canned Wine Co and The Copper Crew, the company has established itself as a leading player in alternative wine formats in the UK. Its products have national on-trade distribution via a preferred supplier agreement with C&C Group and are sold in retailers including Waitrose and Ocado.

Last year, the group introduced draught keg wine to its portfolio for the first time.

“I’m determined for Canned Wine Group to deliver the most trusted wine-by-the-glass experience,” said Franks. “This year, we are excited to innovate with future formats that rapidly expand our availability, and reduce liquid waste from venues up and down the country.

“Simon and the team have laid strong foundations for us to lead the market and I’m looking forward to building on them in our next phase of growth.”

Rollings added: “As co-founder at Canned Wine Group, Ben is uniquely well placed to lead the business through its next stage of growth. He brings a wealth of contacts from his time as CEO of Novel Wines and MD of Ben Franks Wine. I’m also excited to take on the executive chair role that will shape the long-term direction of our group.”
