Co-op Group has appointed former Lidl UK CEO Ronny Gottschlich to its board as an independent non-executive director.
Gottschlich led the discounter from 2010 to 2016, following many senior leadership roles for Lidl’s parent Schwarz Group in multiple European markets.
During his time in the UK, he managed a workforce of more than 20,000 and oversaw a period of rapid growth for the discounter.
Since 2016, he has run Heunadel Retail Advisory, and from 2020 to 2022 he served as COO of rapid grocery delivery firm Gorillas.
“We’re delighted to welcome Ronny to our board and to our Co-op,” said Co-op Group chair Debbie White.
“Ronny brings a wealth of experience and joins us at an important time for our Co-op as we look to grow our Co-op for the future, for the benefit of our seven million members across the UK.”
Gottschlich added: “I’m excited to be joining the Co-op, a business with genuine purpose, and for the opportunity to work with the board and leadership team to deliver the next stage in the strategy for growth.”
