The glitch lasted for ‘a few hours’ last night

The Co-op has put an error that made some products free on Deliveroo down to a clerical slip, unrelated to cyber attackers.

The error, which lasted for “a few hours” last night (1 May), saw online shoppers stock up on products that were incorrectly priced.

Costa Coffee Smooth Medium Roast 100g and Loyd Grossman Tomato & Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce 350g were being given away for free.

Air Wick Crisp Linen & Lilac Reed Diffuser 42ml and Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant Squash 750g were discounted from £6 to 55p and £1.50 to 15p respectively.

One shopper told the BBC the “incredible offer” allowed him to get more than £80 worth of goods for just £3.29, including delivery fees. “I was surprised the Co-op and Deliveroo honoured and delivered the mispriced items,” he said.

He said he would be donating most of the items to his local food bank.

A Co-op spokesperson said: “Due to a clerical error, a small number of prices were showing incorrectly on our Deliveroo shop for a few hours last night. This was quickly resolved, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

It is understood the error was isolated and not related to news earlier this week that the Co-op was among retailers to have been targeted by cyber attackers, along with M&S and Harrods
