Doritos is to launch its high-protein range in the UK, following its US rollout earlier this year.
Doritos Protein will debut this month in Sweet Chilli Chipotle and Sizzling Steak flavours (rsp: £2/48g). Each bag contains 10g of protein.
The non-HFSS snacks also contain 30% less fat than the average bag of regular tortilla chips, according to Doritos. They are made from soya, lentils and corn, and are also billed as being high in fibre.
Doritos Protein would offer retailers “a high-protein savoury snack in a large single-serve format, suited to food-to-go and daytime snacking occasions”, said Doritos supplier PepsiCo.
“Protein is becoming a much bigger part of everyday eating, and shoppers are increasingly expecting to see it across a wider range of food categories,” said Cynthia Finke, Doritos UK marketing director. “Doritos Protein brings that demand into savoury snacking, with new ingredients whilst still delivering bold flavour and crunch people expect from Doritos.
“The 48g single-serve format also gives retailers a new high-protein option for food-to-go and meal deals.”
The UK rollout follows the launch of Doritos Protein in the US in February.
It comes amid a push into healthier snacking from PepsiCo, as inflation, health trends, and the rise of GLP-1 weight-loss medications continue to weigh on demand for traditional salty snacks and fizzy drinks.
Earlier this week, PepsiCo unveiled Wow, a new healthier snacking brand featuring Wotsits and Snack a Jacks branding.
Wow Wotsits Real Cheesy and Wow Wotsits Lightly Salted are made from chickpea flour and provide a source of fibre, while Wow Snack a Jacks Apple & Cinnamon is made from corn.
