Emily English has almost three million followers for her Em the Nutritionist profile across Instagram and TikTok

Gut health supplements startup Epetōme, founded by nutritionist and influencer Emily English, has secured a multimillion-pound investment to accelerate international expansion and deepen its clinical research programme.

Led by Active Partners and Redrice Ventures, the funding round will allow the company to invest more into clinical testing across probiotics and prebiotics.

English, known more widely through her Em the Nutritionist social media profile, launched the business in 2023.

Epetōme sells a daily supplement focused on digestive health, containing 11 clinically trialled bacterial strains alongside fibre, vitamin D, zinc and biotin. The brand claims its patented duo cap technology, with a capsule inside a capsule, is 30 times more effective than a standard capsule.

“The world of supplements can be hard to trust, and, as a nutritionist, I’ve seen the impact of that uncertainty first-hand,” English said. “Over years of working with clients, I’ve listened to countless gut health stories – people trying everything, spending money on products that overpromise, and still not feeling like themselves.

“Epetōme was created to change that and to set a new industry standard for gut health supplements, built with integrity, evidence and real outcomes in mind. The most motivating part is hearing the feedback – when someone tells us it has been life-changing and that they finally feel like they can live freely again.

“I truly believe our gut health underpins everything, and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved over the past year. This funding marks an exciting next step for Epetōme, and it is only the beginning.”

English has a social media audience of almost three million followers across Instagram and TikTok for her healthy recipe-based content and is also the author of two bestselling cookbooks, with a third scheduled for release in May.

Consumer-focused investment firm Active Partners has backed the likes of Freja, All Things Butter, Stocked, Botivo, Northern Monk and Gutology as part of its portfolio.

Redrice Ventures backs consumer brands across media, sport and health & wellness, including Mother Root, Mission and Spacegoods, and counts former tennis player Andy Murray and former triathlete Alistair Brownlee as associate partners.

Active investor Billy Fox said: “Today’s consumers are more informed and purposeful about their wellbeing than ever before; they’re seeking products that deliver tangible, science-backed value, especially when it comes to wellness. Emily and the team have built Epetōme around these evolving expectations in gut health, translating clinical insight into products that are both evidence-led and easy to integrate into everyday life.

“We believe the brand is exceptionally well positioned to lead as this market continues to expand.”

Redrice associate partner Alistair Brownlee added: “Epetōme represents the next generation of evidence-led gut health, combining science with real-world performance relevance. It’s exactly the kind of business we look to back at Redrice, products grounded in science that genuinely make people’s lives healthier and better. We’re excited to co-lead this investment and support the team as they build a category-defining brand in functional supplements.”
