Convenience stores across Scotland avoided empty shelves during recent snow disruption, after wholesaler JW Filshill pushed through deliveries despite road closures and icy conditions.
JW Filshill, which supplies KeyStore stores and independent retailers across Scotland and the north of England, said heavy snowfall and icy roads forced closures across parts of Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, which cut off access to communities.
Despite the disruption, Filshill said its contingency planning and the “sterling efforts” of its driver network allowed it to maintain “timely deliveries”.
“Our drivers delivering across Aberdeenshire in particular deserve huge praise for their resilience, attitude and determination,” said JW Filshill senior operations manager outbound John O’Neil.
“In some cases, drivers have had to be pulled out from deep snow while attempting deliveries – yet they continued to do everything possible to ensure vital supplies reached communities, including those in areas declared a major incident.
“I want to recognise how admirably our teams have responded to the extremely challenging weather conditions we’ve faced recently.”
O’Neil also pointed to the “real spirit of community” throughout the difficult trading period, with people stepping in to help one another which is “something that sits at the heart of what we do”.
“At Filshill, one of our values is being passionate about service, and our staff have truly lived that value during these difficult conditions,” he added.
