Sustainable period care challenger Fluus has landed its first major supermarket listings, rolling two variants of flushable pads into 249 Tesco stores from today (6 October).
The rollout marked “a pivotal shift” for the brand, it said, “making it easier for people to rethink their usual femcare choices”.
Fluus pads are made via patented Flushtec technology, which allows users to flush the pad and its wrapper. The products disintegrate in water, leaving no microplastics. Liners are priced at £3.49/15 while Medium Pads are £3.99 for 10.
“Fluus is the only brand offering a plastic-free, fully biodegradable alternative to the market,” said co-founder Dr Olivia Ahn. “Launching in Tesco offers an opportunity to encourage people to rethink their habits and make healthier choices.
“We wanted Fluus to be available where people already do their shopping. Why should you have to make a special trip for sustainable period products? Making conscious choices should be part of your normal routine, not an extra chore.”
Most supermarket shoppers bought period products “without thinking twice”, Ahn added. “But when we see better options right next to the brands we choose in autopilot mode, it’s easier to make more conscious choices.”
Fluus – which has won backing from heavyweight investors such as Eileen Burbidge, Check Warner and Deepali Nangia – is currently exploring applications of its Flushtec in incontinence care, baby products and household hygiene.
“We’re rethinking disposable hygiene entirely,” said Ahn. “This isn’t just about periods, it’s about creating products that fit into our lives without harming the planet.”
