Train ticket booking platform Trainline has partnered with Domino’s so passengers travelling between London Euston and Stirling can order pizza to their seat.

Pizzas – which can be ordered for free this bank holiday weekend – will be delivered to travellers when the Lumo service train stops at Preston Station.

Domino’s delivery drivers will come to the platform and hand a passenger’s pizza directly to Trainline ambassadors at Preston, who will then deliver it straight to their seat.

The service is offering four favourites on its menu – Domino’s Original Cheese and Tomato, Vegi Supreme, Pepperoni Passion and plant-based Margheri-tastic – to “keep platform deliveries fast and efficient”.

Trainline said it would monitor live Lumo train schedule updates and “always do our best to adjust bake times and deliver your pizza despite delays”.

“Over the years we’ve heard the stories of train travellers trying to time a cheeky pizza delivery with a station platform visit,” said Ryan Kenton, PR manager and special deliveries expert at Domino’s.

“Domino’s is known for super speedy delivery, so we’re delighted to partner with Trainline to make those Train Thru dreams come true. Now, passengers can get a piping hot pizza pick-me-up delivered right to their seats, just as those mid-journey hunger pangs start to bite,” he added.

The service is running exclusively over the August Bank Holiday weekend on selected Lumo direct services – those stopping at Preston between 11.30am and 9pm – connecting London Euston and Stirling, in both directions.

Orders for the free pizza – one per customer – can be made up until midnight the evening before a passenger’s journey.

A survey conducted by Trainline found 57% of train travellers are hungry for more food options while travelling, with almost two-thirds (63%) saying they would like to have a hot, fresh takeaway delivered directly to their seat during their journey.

Just over half (53%) of travellers say they underestimate their hunger on long trips – according to the survey – leaving over a third (36%) feeling “hangry” and irritable.

The initiative targets “the exact window when travel ‘hanger’ hits hardest”, with 40% of passengers experiencing hunger within the first hour of boarding, reaching its peak between two and three hours into a long journey.

“Food shapes how people enjoy travel, so we’re making this busy bank holiday and festival weekend even better by ensuring passengers can satisfy their pizza cravings en route,” said Natalie Marques, head of creative innovation at Trainline. “When travelling with friends and family, no transport makes sharing a pizza easier than a train.”
