Scottish independent drinks wholesaler William Morton has promoted sales manager John Gilligan to the board in the newly created post of sales director.
Reporting to joint MDs Stephen Russell and Bill Armstrong, Gilligan will aim to capitalise on the expansion of the company in the last year. His appointment expands the board to six, including two non-executive members.
He joined William Morton in March 2002 from Scottish Brewers where he was senior manager. He has worked for 25 years in the licensed trade, beginning as a trainee salesman with Dryburgh.
Joint MD Stephen Russell said: “Gilligan is a well-known and highly respected figure whose knowledge and experience are bringing tremendous benefits to the business.”
Russell said Gilligan’s promotion was partly due to his prior performance in sales: “He has managed to reinvigorate and expand the sales force and we are looking for more of the same.”
