Cutting edge technology sourced worldwide will give a boost to leading food producer Grampian.
UK giant Grampian had employed incubator companies inVentaBrand and the Brand Engine to scour the globe for the latest innovations and technologies.
David Salkeld, chief executive, said: “As a result we’ve identified 11 new technologies from around the world that we think can add value into our categories.”
He said at the moment the programme was at an embryonic stage and did not reveal any details regarding the new technologies, although he said they could cover anything from production processes to new products.
“Maybe some of them will just make us a more efficient producer, but others may mean some unique consumer products.”
He said the company, which was now worth around £2bn and the third largest food producer in the UK, was through its restructuring phase and praised the support of staff: “I think we‘ve got some of the best people in the industry and the people coming in are making us even better.”
Communication lines were now much clearer and the company more responsive, he added. He also stressed the support of chairman Fred Duncan during the changes who he said had driven the plan from day one.
At the moment Salkeld is visiting the company’s sites to communicate Grampian’s new five-year strategy.
Key to this is the move further into added value products, he said: “We need to get ourselves further up the value curve. Raw added value is growing by around 24%. Consumers are moving away from primary products to added value. The agenda for us is to follow the consumer.”
Although he said the company would not ignore its primary background, he said they still needed to focus on consumer demands in areas such as snacking for example.
