Independent retailer Harj Dhasee has switched from Nisa to Spar at his Wilmcote store in Warwickshire.
His primary supplier is now AF Blakemore, moving from Co-op Wholesale, giving Dhasee access to Spar own label and AF Blakemore’s commercial and operational support, including rebates of up to 8%.
As part of the transfer, the store has undergone a major refit, extending it from 600 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft.
Dhasee told The Grocer his incentive behind the move was the better service AF Blakemore could provide for small stores, with access to single pick products and longer ordering windows.
He added that the store had been heavily based around the confectionery, tobacco, and newsagents mission (CTN) for the past 20 years, but was now looking to build a stronger fresh range to reflect changing shopper habits.
Customers have responded positively to the refreshed look and improved offer, he said, with the expanded space helping the store “better meet the needs of the local community”.
“Joining Spar with AF Blakemore allows me to keep my independence while strengthening what the store can offer customers,” said Dhasee. “The Blakemore Trade Partner+ proposition is built for retailers like me – no fees, no surcharges, competitive pricing and the right support to drive profitable growth. This partnership will help us invest, evolve and serve our community even better.”
Dhasee also used to own a Morrisons Daily store in the Cotswolds, which he sold in 2024 to focus on other businesses and family.
