Hill Biscuits has added a two-cracker snack pack and 300g format

Manchester-based manufacturer Hill Biscuits has launched a savoury biscuit for the first time in its 170-year history.

It has added cream crackers under its new Simply Savoury range in response to “growing consumer demand for quality, value-for-money savoury options”.

They have launched in a two-cracker snack pack and 300g format (rsp: TBC). The crackers are available to wholesale and foodservice initially and will be available to retailers soon.

A range of Scalloped Crackers, in Sea Salt & Black Pepper and Rosemary, will launch under the Simply Savoury brand later this year.

The activity coincides with Hill Biscuits’ 170th anniversary, in celebration of which it has rolled out limited-edition pack designs for its custard cream and bourbon biscuits.

Having started as a small shop in Manchester opened by John and Sarah Hill in 1855, Hill Biscuits today makes a range of sweet biscuits under the Hill brand, as well as private label offerings for the discounters in the UK and Europe.

The business was sold to the UK arm of Spanish own label giant Cerealto in July 2024, giving long-standing private equity backer LDC an exit.

Hill Biscuits’ chief financial officer Brendon Ward-Banner was appointed CEO of Cerealto UK in January.

According to Ward-Banner, Hill Biscuits had “recognised an opportunity to diversify our product range as Cerealto UK already manufactures a wide range of sweet biscuits and savoury products”.

“Entering the savoury category in biscuit baking felt like a natural and exciting progression for the business whilst staying true to our values of quality, tradition and affordability,” Ward-Banner added.
