Jempson’s has passed a major milestone in its colleague profit share incentive, paying out more than £250,000 since its launch in 2020.

The independent retailer, which operates eight stores across Kent and Sussex in partnership with Morrisons, said the milestone reflected its commitment to “recognise the contribution colleagues make to the business every day”.

“Their effort, loyalty and consistency have helped the business continue to serve local communities while investing in colleagues and supplier partnerships,” it added.

This year, a total of £50,000 was paid to over 280 colleagues. Since launching in 2020, it has paid staff a cash bonus every year except one, it said.

“This is another way we try and thank our colleagues for their extraordinary commitment, loyalty and support that they give to the business through the good and not so good times,” said MD Stephen Jempson.

“We would not have succeeded in this difficult market without their continued assistance, drive and dedication.”

Jempson’s is a family-run business that celebrated its 90th anniversary last year. It continues to build a strong own-label offer through its manufacturing facilities at its Rye supermarket, including ready meals, pizzas, sandwiches, pasta salads, wraps and bakery goods.

It also became the second retailer to operate under the Together with Morrisons model in 2023 after working with Nisa for 40 years.
