French drinks giant La Martiniquaise-Bardinet has bought a majority shareholding in British spirits maker Warner’s Distillery for an undisclosed sum.
Warner’s was founded by Tom and Tina Warner in 2012 and makes a range of spirits from ingredients grown on their family farm in Northamptonshire.
La Martiniquaise is France’s second-largest spirits group, making drinks including Glen Moray and Cutty Sark.
Tom Warner said the partnership “allows us to stay true to our roots, creating incredible drinks with real purpose, while giving us the strength to scale that mission globally”.
The founders are expected to remain in charge of the business following the deal.
Warner’s has appeared in the Sunday Times’ 100 fastest-growing drinks businesses in the UK for two years running, led by its spirits including a rhubarb gin and a London dry gin.
It sells to 30 countries globally, including the US, Australia and UAE.
La Martiniquaise-Bardinet said the deal will see a “dynamic new brand” added to its portfolio.
International director Christophe Pichamber called Warner’s gin “a true gem of the English craft gin landscape with its farm-grown and distilled botanicals.
“Our goal will be to help Tom and Tina bring their wonderful spirit to the world, with respect for their pioneering spirit and exceptional passion.”
Last year, Warner’s unveiled Trash & Treasure Spirits, a new brand dedicated to reducing food waste. The lineup consists of a tropical rum and a citrus vodka, both made using unwanted foods, fruits and peels that would have otherwise gone to landfill, Warner’s said.
