Last-mile delivery business Stuart has rolled out its proprietary Challenge 25 compliance technology across the UK, which it claims achieves “the industry’s highest compliance rates for age-restricted deliveries”.
The white-label delivery service – whose network of couriers provide deliveries for Tesco Whoosh, Iceland, Pizza Hut and Pasta Evangelists, among many others – said the tech achieved Challenge 25 compliance rates of over 90%, “significantly outperforming the industry standard of 40%”.
Its solution enables couriers to securely scan a customer’s government-issued ID documents, automatically detecting the date of birth to verify they are 18 or over. The “privacy-first” tool does not store personal data, Stuart said, and couriers cannot access or retain images of the ID.
The solution is already live with major UK retailers, including Tesco, and has enabled Stuart to expand into new markets such as Belfast, where more “stringent compliance requirements previously presented barriers to entry”.
“Ensuring Challenge 25 compliance while maintaining the flexibility and speed our customers expect has been one of our industry’s greatest challenges,” said Ricardo Amorim, chief revenue officer at Stuart.
“Our innovative approach demonstrates that responsible delivery practices and operational excellence can work hand in hand,” he added. “We’re proud to set a new industry standard while supporting our retail partners in meeting their compliance obligations.”
The company said that ensuring robust age verification for alcohol and other restricted items when working with self-employed couriers was “one of the delivery sector’s most persistent challenges”.
