Lidl is appointing a ‘Green Team’ of ‘internal change-makers’ to drive forward its sustainability strategy toward reaching net zero by 2050.
The discounter is looking among its current employees to form the team and bring fresh ideas to its sustainability agenda.
“At Lidl GB, we know that reaching net zero by 2050 isn’t a solo mission – it requires a grassroots movement,” the supermarket wrote on LinkedIn on Thursday.
“While we’ve made big strides already, we know our greatest assets are the 35,000 colleagues who see our operations inside and out every day.
“We are officially launching the Green Team, a new community of internal change-makers dedicated to driving our sustainability strategy forward.
“For our colleagues, this is your chance to move from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat. We’re looking for the innovators ready to help us cultivate fresh ideas and get this team off the ground.”
Those interested are asked to keep an eye on Lidl’s international communications app, We Are Lidl, “for more information on how to join the team”.
Lidl said the initiative aligned with its international strategy of deepening staff engagement with its sustainability agenda. It said the team would have two national co-chairs, who would collaborate with the head office corporate social responsibility team to put ideas into practice.
“We recognise that sustainability is not just a corporate goal but a shared responsibility,” said Lidl GB head of sustainability Matt Juden-Bloomfield.
“Having seen the immense passion towards sustainability across our stores, warehouses, and offices, we are now giving our colleagues the power to lead it. By moving our people from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat, we can ensure that the unique insights of our 35,000-strong workforce help to make sustainability the heartbeat of our everyday culture.
“We cannot wait to see how this internal community of innovators will help to drive meaningful, lasting change for the environment and the communities we serve.”
