Lidl is offering students and apprentices aged over 18 the chance to win one of 100 £10 vouchers, in a competition launching just ahead of exams.
Lidl said a recent Censuswide survey of students and apprentices aged 16 to 18 found their eating habits suffered around exam time. A third (32%) relied on energy drinks, and 43% skipped breakfast ahead of exams. Three-quarters said they felt hungry during an exam and 27% experienced an energy crash.
The competition is open from today (6 May) to over-18s in full or part-time education or on an apprenticeship. Under-18s can also enter but must obtain written consent from a parent or guardian.
However, winners not may receive their vouchers until the last week of June, according to T&Cs – after summer exams have finished.
The T&Cs say the competition closes on 23 June and prizes will be distributed “within five working days of the closing date”.
A Lidl spokesperson said this was the latest date prizes would be distributed, with the prize draw to close automatically once 100 winners from all valid entries had been determined on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lidl has also shared ‘biohacking’ tips from its in-house nutritionist Emma Williams, such as cashew nuts for supporting normal cognitive function. It said 54% in the survey said they did not know which foods helped support cognitive performance.
Lidl GB corporate affairs director Georgina Hall said: “I remember well the late-night coffees and chocolate-fuelled study sessions I had during my own exam periods.
“The world’s understanding of nutrition and how we can help ourselves has evolved so much in recent years though.
“We want to help make this exam season easier for the next generation because eating well shouldn’t cost the earth, and we firmly believe that everyone should have access to healthy, affordable food.”
