Loyalty vouchering site Steppr is targeting groups of producers and independent retailers who want to team up on vouchers.
Its vouchers can be redeemed across a choice of brands by shoppers. It follows a rollout with a group of Kent wineries.
Steppr’s website launched earlier this year, after initially being app-only. The platform now works with 200 companies. Founder Stephen Jeffrey said food and drink brands were its largest growth segment and around 85% of vouchers were purchased as gifts.
The platform is targeting a four-fold increase in the number of live campaigns on the site over the next 12 months, including multi-brand offers.
Steppr does not charge businesses any commission to use its platform and passes money straight onto retailers when a voucher is bought, rather than holding onto the cash until vouchers are redeemed.
The site is designed to reward loyalty, with discounts ‘stepped up’ for repeat voucher purchases.
Multi-brand vouchering was first implemented with Wine Garden of England, which promotes nine vineyards in Kent including Chapel Down and Biddenden. Shoppers can buy a voucher that can be redeemed at any of the participating vineyards.
WGE holds the money when the voucher is bought, and reimburses the vineyard for the voucher’s face value when it is redeemed.
Brand manager Jo Ginn said the multi-vineyard voucher was encouraging more visitors to smaller vineyards.
“It gives everybody a fair crack at getting new visitors to their doors and encourages the person that has the voucher to try something new,” she said. “It’s a great way of introducing people to Kent wine.
“We had previously discussed the idea of a central voucher system, but creating one was beyond all of us as every single vineyard has a different administrative and booking system. We have a tangible product that has increased visitor numbers and built awareness of Wine Garden of England as a brand too.”
Steppr now wants to work with more multi-brand partners and is in discussion with Business Improvement Districts about creating vouchers to reward local shopping.
Jeffrey added: “Steppr helps smaller and independent businesses sell gift vouchers and unlock a vital, profitable cash flow stream, while still offering strong value to customers. We’re building a fair, non-exploitative voucher ecosystem that puts both customers and businesses first.
“With our new multi-brand campaign structure, spearheaded by Wine Garden of England, independents can team up and combine their reaches to offer a more compelling voucher proposition to customers. It gives them the scale of larger players, but on their own terms and through a single, centralised platform.”
