The range includes four SKUs, including smoked back bacon, smoked streaky bacon, unsmoked back bacon, and unsmoked streaky bacon

Spoilt Pig has unveiled a new Made Without Nitrites range, following mounting concern over the use of the cancer-linked chemicals in the curing of pork.

The Denhay Farms-owned brand’s new range consists of four SKUs: smoked back bacon, smoked streaky bacon, unsmoked back bacon, and unsmoked streaky bacon, with each pack weighing 184g and retailing at £4.35.

Spoilt Pig said it had “been listening” to customers over concerns regarding the use of nitrites, saying they were “increasingly asking what’s in their food”, and asserted the range focused on “quality, transparency, and doing things properly”.

It comes as The Grocer reported earlier this month that sales of nitrite-cured bacon plunged by £18.7m in the 12 weeks to the end of January due to consumer concerns over safety.

Available via Ocado, the range uses Red Tractor-assured British pork primarily from Hampshire breed pigs “known for their excellent meat quality, natural marbling, and rich flavour”.

“Whether you’re after the rich, smoky sizzle that fills the kitchen on a Sunday morning or the clean, classic flavour of unsmoked bacon stacked high in a sandwich, Spoilt Pig has you covered,” the brand said. “From crispy streaky strips to hearty back rashers, there’s something here for every bacon fan.

“And because we believe great food should be a little bit fun, our new range is made for everything from lazy brunches to ‘just one more rasher’ moments (we won’t judge).”
