McVitie’s has added a limited-edition Yuzu Lemon variant for Jaffa Cakes.
The NPD (rsp: £1.50) features a “tangy yuzu lemon jelly” on top of the classic sponge base, covered in chocolate. It will hit Tesco on 13 August.
Once “a hidden gem of Japanese cuisine”, yuzu had “exploded in popularity in recent years”, becoming “a must-try for foodies, trendsetters and flavour chasers alike”, McVitie’s claimed.
“Jaffa Cakes have always been a firm favourite, and the new Yuzu Lemon flavour taps into a trend that’s captured foodie taste buds everywhere,” said Jaffa Cakes marketing manager Jessica Woolfrey.
“Punchy and refreshingly tangy, it’s a daring take on the original that is set to surprise and delight Jaffa Cake fans.”
Yuzu Lemon is the second limited-edition Jaffa Cakes variant to have launched into supermarkets in summer 2025.
McVitie’s launched Hot Honey Jaffa Cakes, which combine “the sweetness of honey with chilli heat in a delicious jelly”, into Asda in June, ahead of a wider grocery, wholesale and convenience rollout. This followed the launch of limited-edition Jaffa Cola Bottle in 2024.
This latest launch comes after McVitie’s owner Pladis last month announced investments totalling £68m into upgrading its UK manufacturing sites. This included a £21m investment into its Stockport factory, where Jaffa Cakes and Penguins are made.
