Merchant Gourmet has added a range of ambient, grain-based ready meals, inspired by world cuisines.
Called Supergrain Bowls, (rsp: £2.50/220g-280g) the range comprises Italian Style, Masala, 5 Spice and Burrito.
Each features a “nutritious mix” of pulses, grains and vegetables, totalling at least seven different plant varieties.
They have rolled into Tesco and are available DTC via Merchant Gourmet’s webstore.
The pouches join Merchant Gourmet’s existing Meals In Minutes range, including Lentil & Chickpea Tagine, 3 Bean & Lentil Chilli and Thai Green Lentil Curry, which hit supermarket shelves in August.
“Our customers are no longer just looking for convenience; they want food that fits their busy lives but still delivers on taste and variety,” said Merchant Gourmet MD Richard Peake.
“The growth we’ve seen in the ambient meals space really emphasises this.”
Supergrain Bowls were developed in “direct response to what we’re hearing from our customers”, Peake added.
It comes after Merchant Gourmet launched ready-to-eat beans range, comprising Jumbo Chickpeas, 5 Bean Medley and Smoky Black Turtle Beans, in October.
The range was extended with Drain-Free Mini Kidney Beans (rsp: £2.25/240g) last month. Merchant Gourmet also added Quick Cook Spelt (rsp: 3.60/300g) and Tricolour Giant Couscous (rsp: £3/300g), coinciding with a “vibrant” redesign of its packs.
