The Midcounties Co-op is offering members a range of deals, discounts and prizes to celebrate its 20th anniversary this month.
These include 20% off selected Co-op own-label products until 6 September, the chance to win £20 off a basket of shopping, with 20 winners selected every day between 7 and 13 September, and 20% off selected Fairtrade products from 21 September to 4 October.
The society, which is one of the UK’s largest independent co-operatives, said the milestone marked two decades of growth, innovation and community impact.
Since forming in 2005, through a merger between West Midlands Co-op and Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Co-op, its turnover has more than trebled to over £1.5bn, with more than 6,200 colleagues now working across the society.
Membership has also quadrupled in that time, from 189,000 to 758,000, with member trade now making up 44% of its total sales.
The society also highlighted its community and charity achievements over the past 20 years, including donating millions of pounds to good causes, supporting nearly 700 apprentices, and volunteering more than 560,000 hours for charities. It has also saved over 80,000 tonnes of CO2 through sustainability initiatives.
“For 20 years, our members have been at the heart of everything we do,” said Midcounties Co-op CEO Phil Ponsonby. “One of the things I’m especially delighted with is how the proportion of spending by our members has grown to nearly half of our total transactions – as this shows that we’re providing value and that our members know that every time they spend with us, they’re helping us make a meaningful difference in our local communities.
