Momo Kombucha range

Momo Kombucha is expecting sales of £4.5m in 2025

Momo Kombucha has raised £2m from angel investors to substantially boost production capacity as demand for healthier drinks continues to grow.

It brings the total raised by the London-based kombucha brand to £4.5m since launching in 2018. Momo is now seeking an additional £1m in top-up investments to take the current round to £3m in total.

The cash – raised from 24 angels, including Brixton Brewery co-founder Jez Galaun and Natoora founder Franco Fubini – is earmarked for a new brewery fit out to help the business scale faster.

Momo founders Josh and Lisa Puddle discovered kombucha on a trip to New York in 2016, inspiring the husband-and-wife team to start brewing the gut health drink at their London home.

Today, the B Corp brand is stocked by the likes of Ocado, Gail’s and Nando’s, and recently won its first bricks-and-mortar supermarket listing with Booths.

Momo also expanded its leadership team at the end of 2024, hiring Katie Jewitt, formerly of Trip, Innocent and Greggs, as COO and Murray Smyth, formerly of AlixPartners and Deloitte, as head of finance.

“This is by far our largest fundraise to date, and I’m deeply grateful to the individuals who backed us, most of whom first discovered Momo as loyal customers and have since become long-term believers in our brand,” said Josh Puddle.

“In fact, our four biggest shareholders are all top five D2C customers. Their support is a real testament to the strength of the community around Momo.”

He added: “The funds will enable us to significantly scale our production capacity, the main factor limiting our growth since we launched in 2018 and allow us to continue investing in the quality of our kombucha. Ultimately, this raise will help bring us closer to our ambition of becoming the UK’s favourite kombucha.”

Momo brews its organic drinks unfiltered in small batches using traditional glass jars, which the business said produces “the tastiest and highest quality” kombucha possible.

The kombucha category is still small in the UK but growing rapidly as trends around gut health, cutting back on alcohol consumption and reducing sugar drive increasing demand for healthier soft drinks.

Retail sales of the fermented tea drink reached £33m last year [NIQ 52 w/e 21 December 2025], according to the latest category report in The Grocer.

Momo said it was “well positioned” to “dominate” the category thanks to the high quality of its kombucha, a loyal following and “deep” partnerships with customers.

The business has doubled revenues on average in each year for the past four years and is targeting sales of £4.5m in 2025. It is forecasting hitting £20m in sales by 2028.

Josh and Lisa Puddle continue to hold a majority stake in the business following the latest funding round, with the remainder owned by 31 angel investors, including Planet Organic founder Renée Elliott and former Innocent Drinks head of finance Jess Coles.
