The first Wilko concession opened in Morrisons Speke store in Liverpool

Morrisons has partnered with Wilko owner CDS Superstores to launch new DIY aisles in its stores.

The first of the new branded Wilko bays launched at Morrisons’ Speke store in Liverpool last week. The Grocer understands it is the first of more than 20 proposed locations set to be rolled out over the course of 2026.

Stocking a range of Wilko’s paint, car accessories, decorating tools and household essentials, the new bays – which are adorned in Wilko’s red branding – will allow shoppers to pick up their DIY essentials “alongside their weekly shop”, Morrisons said.

“We are pleased to have launched our new Wilko’s concession in our Speke store, marking the start of an exciting new partnership,” a Morrisons spokeswoman said.

“We are looking forward to rolling this out to further stores later in the year.”

Morrisons filling space left by café and counter closures

It is the latest partnership of a renewed concessions rollout by Morrisons, as it looks to fill the space left by the closure of 52 of its in-store cafés, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies in March last year.

CEO Rami Baitiéh has also talked of giving shoppers “more reasons to shop at Morrisons” by turning its stores into ‘one-stop shops’. In September, The Grocer revealed the launch of a new store within a store partnership with health & wellness retailer Holland & Barrett.

It was followed in November by new sushi and Korean food counters under an expansion of Morrisons’ partnership with KellyDeli.

Morrisons has also sought to up its service offer, including by opening pure water stations with Spotless Water in some of its store car parks, as well as rolling out new laundrettes.

CDS is also in the midst of regrowing Wilko’s retail presence, having bought the distressed discounter’s e-commerce and brand assets out of administration in September 2023.

Alongside a handful of physical stores, there are also Wilko concessions in fellow CDS retailer The Range.
