Kelly-ann McQueen joined Morrisons in October after 14 years with Asda

Morrisons has appointed long-time Asda buyer Kelly-ann McQueen as its new trading director for dairy and eggs.

McQueen joined Morrisons earlier this week, to replace former category director Faye Atkins, who left the supermarket in August.

Confirming her appointment, Morrisons said it was “thrilled to welcome” McQueen.

“Kelly-ann has a proven track record in delivering customer-centric strategies and building high-performing teams that achieve outstanding commercial results,” the supermarket said.

“Known for her collaborative leadership style and passion for doing the right thing for customers, Kelly-ann is a fantastic addition to the team,” it added.

McQueen joins Morrisons after 14 years in a number of category buying roles at Asda, spanning fresh, grocery and non-food. She also previously spent three years as a buyer for own-label fresh food supplier Natures Way Foods.

She is the latest in a string of changes to Morrisons’ commercial team at Hilmore House, following a major restructure under new group trading director Andrew Staniland’s ‘Magic’ plan in March.

It has seen the consolidation of five lines of reporting into three, with some category director positions merged into heads of trading areas. Buyers are also now referred to as traders.

Morrisons claimed that no redundancies were planned, with the restructure in fact leading to the creation of 10 new positions. However, The Grocer understands that a number of senior category directors have left Hilmore House over recent weeks.

This includes Rebecca Stanton, category director for frozen, who left the supermarket last week after two years.

“After 14 fantastic years at Asda, I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Morrisons as trading director for dairy & eggs,” said McQueen, announcing her new position on LinkedIn.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences, learning and friendships I’ve gained at Asda — it’s been a brilliant journey.

“Now I’m looking forward to this next chapter at Morrisons, working with a great team and fantastic suppliers to deliver quality, value and innovation for our customers every day.”
