Morrisons shoppers will have to spend £50 during four of five weeks in order to access the Christmas bonus points

Morrisons has kicked off a major festive loyalty push in a bid to drive More Card use in the run-up to Christmas.

Launching today (11 November), Morrisons’ Merry More Points scheme will give shoppers the chance to earn 20,000 More Card Points, which Morrisons claims is the equivalent of £20, if they spend a minimum of £50 in-store and online during four of the five weeks to 14 December.

On top of the Christmas count-up, Morrisons will also offer More Card holders weekly “Christmas surprises” when they scan their physical card or app. It includes additional More Points, “festive treats”, money-off coupons or the chance of an entire free shop.

Shoppers will need to activate Merry More Card Points via their More Card app or, using a physical card, scan their activation coupon before 9 November. They can spread their £50 total over multiple shops each week.

“We know Christmas can be an expensive time for many families, so we wanted to give our loyal customers a little extra help in the run-up to the big day,” said Morrisons loyalty director Gareth Lloyd.

“By making it easier to earn More Points, our Merry More Points scheme rewards customers simply for doing their regular shop. Whether they’re topping up the fridge, buying festive treats, or picking up last-minute gifts, every shop at Morrisons brings them closer to a well-earned Christmas bonus.”

Merry More Points come alongside Morrisons’ existing ‘Fivers’ scheme, in which More Card holders earn £5 to redeem on their shop for every 5,000 loyalty points accrued. Alternatively, shoppers can donate their Fivers to Marie Curie cancer charity this Christmas.

It is the latest development under Morrisons’ new-look loyalty strategy over recent weeks. Research by The Grocer in October revealed Morrisons had dramatically scaled back dedicated More Card promotions over the past year, in favour of a programme of more general promotions across the shop floor.

Morrisons aims to give More Card holders more bespoke benefits, and last month revived its recently ditched 20% More Card discount at its fish and meat counters.
