Ahold has sold seven shopping centre sites in the US, each of which houses a supermarket under its Giant fascia, to private grocery company Edens & Avant. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Anglo-Dutch consumer products group Reckitt Benckiser said that second quarter net revenue growth of 7% was above its full-year target. In a trading update the maker of Dettol antiseptic, Harpic toilet cleaner and Lemsip flu treatment maintained its forecast of 4%-6% sales growth over the full year and a "low double digit" rise in net income.

Wal-Mart has shelved its plan to trial radio frequency ID technology to track Gillette products at its stores in the US. Wal-Mart said tests would now focus on installing RFID in warehouses and distribution centres.

The EU has cleared Interbrew's sale of its 28% stake in Namibia Breweries to a joint venture between Dutch brewer Heineken and UK-based drinks group Diageo.
The deal will cost Heineken and Diageo 131m. Namibia Breweries is the country's only licensed brewer.

Unilever is to introduce a range of chilled dairy food products under the Conimex brand at supermarkets in Holland from September.
It will launch three alternatives to cream, based on a mixture of milk and vegetable fats and a number of chilled ready meals including five different single-portion wok meals.
Unilever said the market for chilled dairy-cream products in the Netherlands was worth 11.3bn, with growth of 4-5% each year. The chilled ready meals market is worth 1138m, growing at 16% a year.

US soft drinks and snacks giant PepsiCo said second quarter pre-tax profit rose 13% boosted by strong volume growth at its Frito-Lay snacks business and cost savings from its merger with Quaker.
For the period to June 14, pre-tax profit rose to $1.45m on sales up 7% to $6.54bn.
Worldwide sales volume rose 5%. But cool weather across the US hit beverage sales at the start of the summer.
