Seven varieties of Nando’s bottled sauces have been recalled due to contamination of one of the ingredients with the illegal dye Sudan I.
Distributor, The Grocery Company, listed the products as Nando’s Extra Hot, Medium and Garlic Peri-Peri sauces in 125ml bottles all with best before end (BBE) codes up to and including December 2005.
Nando’s Roasted Red Cooking Sauce 405g BBE 10/03/04, 29/05/04 to 20/06/04, 27/08/04 to 12/10/04, 03/12/04, 03/01/05, 12/05/05 to 24/05/05.
Nando’s Fresh Lemon Cooking Sauce 390g BBE 22/07/04 to 31/09/04, 23/04/04, 11/06/05.
Nando’s Curry Coconut Cooking Sauce 400g BBE 12/07/04 and 21/05/05.
Sudan I is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence, at any level, is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose.
No other Nando’s products are known to be affected.
