Meat processor Pilgrim’s Europe has agreed to acquire Walkers Deli & Sausage Company from Samworth Brothers for an undisclosed price.
The deal is subject to an employee consultation and approval by the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA).
Walkers Deli & Sausage Co was created by Samworth in 1996 but has a heritage dating back to 1824. The Samworth family purchased the pork butcher and pie maker Walker & Son of Leicester in 1986, marking an expansion into traditional meat and pastry products.
Today, the business employs 1,150 staff and supplies supermarkets with premium sausages, sliced cooked meats, cooked bacon snacking products and pâté.
JBS-owned Pilgrim’s said the deal represented “an important strategic step”, strengthening its position within the UK food industry and expanding its presence in value-added premium pork categories.
