The 14.5% abv tipple offered ‘a deeper, more intriguing take on Pimentae’s signature style’

RTD cocktail brand Pimentae has launched its first ever non-tequila cocktail.

The female-founded brand has teamed up with Mexican agave spirit producer Ojo de Dios Mezcal to debut Spicy Mezcal Maragrita, a 14.5% abv mezcal-based canned cocktail.

Launching in selected Waitrose and Co-op stores from 22 June, the NPD (rsp: from £4.25/125ml) combined “smoky mezcal, fresh lime, sweet agave and a gentle jalapeño kick”, according to Pimentae.

It offered “a deeper, more intriguing take on Pimentae’s signature style”, the supplier added.

“Tapping into mezcal is a natural next step for us and opens the door to a slightly different consumer and occasion,” said Pimentae co-founder Alice Parmiter. “Where tequila is often bright, crisp and citrus-led, mezcal has a deeper, smokier and more complex profile that tends to appeal to those who might gravitate towards whisky or darker spirits.

“As consumers become more educated and curious about agave, mezcal has become a real point of discovery. It still feels niche enough to be exciting, but culturally it’s building huge momentum.”

It comes amid growing interest in tequila and other agave-based spirits. Tequila imports to the UK grew 22% from 2024 to 2025, according to trade data from Volza.

Other brands to product tequila-based RTD cocktails include Moth and Buzzballz.
