Proximo Spirits UK has hired Johnny Roberts as its general manager.
Roberts joins the Jose Cuervo, Bushmills Irish Whiskey, 1800 Tequila and Kraken Rum owner from Berry Bros & Rudd, where he was managing director of its brands division.
He replaces Alex Ouziel, who had been acting as interim GM for Proximo UK.
Roberts brought “a wealth of experience and deep industry knowledge” to Proximo Spirits, according to the supplier.
He began his career in 2004 at AB InBev in China, where he was special projects manager for the Harbin Brewing Company before becoming Corona business manager in Shanghai in 2007.
He joined Berry Bros & Rudd as regional business director for Asia in 2008, spending seven years in post before returning to the UK as commercial director for BB&R’s Fields Morris & Verdin business.
He was appointed managing director of brands at BB&R in 2018. In this role he led a team of 45 people to “drive growth across premium and luxury spirits brands in key markets”, according to Proximo Spirits.
In his new role at Proximo UK, Roberts will work with Proximo’s EMEA APAC managing director Shane Hoyne.
