Redbridge AFI, the specialist division of Redbridge Holdings, has closed its offices and packhouse in the Paddock Wood Distribution Centre.

The move was part of the planned merger with Redbridge Produce Marketing and the new organisation will be led by MD Richard Parke-Davis.

As part of a cost-saving exercise, sales and administration moved to Tolworth, Surrey, on September 1, and packing and distribution will be taken on by lettuce growers Stubbins at Waltham Cross.

Denis Punter, chief executive officer of Redbridge Holdings, said the Stubbins connection was a good match as the industry continued to move forward.

Most of Redbridge AFI’s English soft fruit was packed and sent directly to its multiple customers. However there was a need for a facility in the winter months to handle its imported fruit, he said.

In a separate announcement Punter revealed that Redbridge had acquired the 52.8% equity held by venture capitalist 3i.
