A research centre that offers scientific resources for product development to food manufacturers has been launched at Leeds University.
The Food Chain Centre of Industrial Collaboration has been set up using £11m of funding from Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency for Yorkshire and the Humber. It allows the food industry to access the benefits of cutting-edge research being conducted by universities. It is also intended to encourage food manufacturers to learn from each other.
Companies present at the launch included Nestlé UK and Shepherd’s Purse Cheeses.
Lord Haskins, a Yorkshire Forward board member, said: “By encouraging the transfer of knowledge from research institutions to regional companies we are positioning ourselves as an emerging force for technology and innovation.”
