Ellers Farm Distillery, co-owned by comedian Ricky Gervais, has completed the purchase of 6 O’Clock Gin brand owner Bramley & Gage.
The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, sees the 6 O’Clock Gin join Dutch Barn Vodka and Y-Gin in the Yorkshire distiller’s roster. Ellers Farm is also currently ageing a single malt whisky for future release.
Bramley & Gage was founded over 30 years ago by Edward and Penny Kain, who began making fruit-based liqueurs on their fruit farm in Devon.
After siblings Michael and Felicity Kain took over their parents’ distillery, they began producing small-batch gins under the 6 O’Clock brand. Today, 6 O’Clock Gin’s flagship London Dry is predominantly sold in the on-trade and via specialist retail.
“This is a big step in our long-term growth strategy,” said Ellers Farm Distillery CEO Chris Fraser. “6 O’Clock Gin is a respected premium gin brand, rooted in craft, character and connection. It aligns perfectly with our values, and we’re excited to bring fresh energy, investment and international reach to the brand, while staying true to the qualities that have made it so well loved.”
Gervais added: “I love what we’re building at Ellers Farm. The ambition to take great British spirits to the world is one of the reasons I got involved. We’ve got Dutch Barn Vodka, Y-Gin, a single malt whisky on the way, and now 6 O’Clock.”
Ellers Farm Distilelry said it planned to ”expand distribution and marketing efforts” for 6 O’Clock Gin following the acquisiton.
Asked if it planned to move production to Yorkshire, a spokesman said the business was “working through a comprehensive review of the business to determine the best pathway to create shareholder value”.
Ellers Farm Distillery was founded by Fraser on a farm site near York in 2021. Gervais became a co-owner of the distillery in 2023.
Its flagship Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka is sold in Morrisons and Sainsbury’s stores.
