Benedict Daniels

Benedict Daniels has helped transform the UK business into one of Ritter Sport’s strongest markets

Ritter Sport UK has announced MD Benedict Daniels has resigned after more than a decade in charge.

He will be replaced by current sales director Christian Boulter, who joined last year after more than 25 years at major food companies including Britvic and Symington’s.

Daniels leaves having transformed the UK business into one of Ritter Sport’s strongest international markets.

In an interview with the Grocer in 2021, he described how he came to join the company. “A recruitment consultant rang me and said, ‘We’ve got this German chocolate business that wants to set up an affiliated business in the UK. Would you be interested?’ And I jumped at the chance.”

Ritter Sport didn’t have much of a presence in the UK at that point. “There wasn’t an office; there wasn’t a warehouse; there wasn’t anything,” he added.

Now, however, it is one of UK’s fastest-growing block chocolate brand, having recently surpassed £25m in sales.

“I leave knowing the business is in a strong position,” Daniels said in a statement. “Christian is an outstanding leader who understands our consumers, customers, ambitions and our culture.”

Boulter praised Daniels, saying he left behind “an outstanding team, strong customer relationships, and a business with genuine momentum”.

“I’d also like to thank Ben personally for everything he has done for the business. The foundations he has built over the past decade give us an incredibly strong platform for the future, and I’m very much looking forward to leading the next chapter of Ritter Sport’s growth across the UK and Ireland.”
