Cake rusk

Recalled products include biscuits, cake rusks and Madeira slices

Saffron Pastries has recalled more than two dozen bakery products over a potential rodent contamination.

The Bradford‑based manufacturer has issued a recall for 25 cake and biscuit lines, according to a bulletin issued by the Food Standards Agency.

Biscuit varieties affected include 12-packs in Almond, Pistachio, Coconut, and Jam. Also recalled are several cake rusk products including 12- and 18-piece packs in Soonfi, 26-piece packs in Family and Family Almond, and 12- and 18-piece packs in Original.

Multiple slice products are also included in the recall, including Almond, Angel, Fruit, Lemon, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Coconut (all five‑piece packs).

In addition, a number of Madeira‑style cakes are affected, including Almond, Fruit, Cherry, Coconut, and Plain (all 10‑piece packs), as well as a Triple Pack Variety (three pieces) and a Twin Pack. Cream Roll (five pieces) is also included.

The affected products “may have been contaminated by rodents, making them unsafe to eat”, the FSA said.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling the affected products. The notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

Consumers that had bought the products should not eat them and instead return them to the point of purchase for a full refund, the FSA advised.

Saffron Pastries was approached for comment.

It comes after British breakfast foods supplier Moma Foods issued a slew of recalls, citing a possible mice contamination issue, last month.
