Select & Save has begun benchmarking prices against the Co-op, using new in-store PoS to show shoppers where it undercuts the convenience giant.
The shelf-edge material compares Select & Save’s promotional prices with the Co-op on branded products, typically covering around 70 to 80 lines every four-week period, the symbol group told The Grocer.
Current comparisons include Lucozade Energy Original Orange 500ml on an ‘any four for £3.99’ deal, compared with a Co-op price of £1.90 per bottle, and Tetley Original 80-pack priced at £1.59 compared with Co-op’s £1.90 price.
Other examples are Coca-Cola 12x300ml multipacks priced at £7.49 versus £8.40, while Nescafé Original Decaf 95g is £3.49 compared with £4.19.
The PoS includes small print stating the dates from which Co-op prices are accurate, with current comparisons based on prices as of 1 December 2025.
Own-label products were generally excluded due to comparability issues, Select & Save added, although some exceptions were made for commodities such as eggs and potatoes.
The symbol group said it was comparing promotional prices with other leading retailers as well.
“Select & Save delivers a truly competitive offer, going head‑to‑head with supermarkets and discounters to prove we’re every bit as strong as the major retail operators,” said Select & Save head of commercial Colin Shaw.
“We benchmark all our promotional prices against leading retailers and display these comparisons clearly on our point‑of‑sale materials.
“This shows customers that Select & Save invests heavily in value, offers genuine savings, and is a smart choice for families feeling the pressure of the cost of living crisis.’’
The move comes as Select & Save looks to grow its store estate following a new supply deal with Booker last year and the ongoing rollout of refreshed branding.
