The Scottish Grocers Federation (SGF) has appointed Co-op operations director Kate McCrae as the next VP of its national executive board.
McCrae will take up the role from 18 November, replacing current VP Andrew Kenney, BP’s central operations director. Kenney will take up his post as SGF president for the next two years.
SGF said the move marked an important milestone for the trade body, with McCrae set to become its first female VP. Following two years in the role, she will then take up the position of first female president of the federation.
McCrae brings 25 years’ experience leading large-scale, customer-facing organisations. Her responsibilities as operations director span Co-op’s extensive store network and 42,000 colleagues, alongside operational performance, quick commerce, format and optimisation.
“I am absolutely delighted that Kate has agreed to become SGF’s next vice president,” said SGF CEO Pete Cheema.
“Bringing tremendous experience, energy and credibility to the position. Kate understands retail from the shop floor through to the very highest levels of strategic and operational leadership.
“At a time when our sector continues to face many challenges, both commercial and regulatory, Kate’s perspective will be hugely valuable to SGF and our members. It is vital that SGF continues to have experienced, forward-looking leadership and I very much look forward to working with her as we continue to strengthen and modernise the Federation.”
McCrae added: “I’m truly honoured to be appointed as SGF vice president and would like to thank Pete, Andy and the Board for their support. Convenience retail is an industry that I am incredibly passionate about, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to represent a sector that plays such an important role in the lives of customers and communities every day.
“Throughout my career, I have seen the resilience, innovation and dedication that exists across our industry, and I’m looking forward to working with SGF colleagues, members, and partners to help champion the issues that matter most to retailers.
“Together, we have a real opportunity to strengthen our sector’s voice, encourage greater diversity and representation, and support its continued success for the future.”
Kenney said: “I’m delighted to welcome Kate as SGF’s next vice president. Her passion for our sector, extensive operational experience, and commitment to the communities we serve will be a real asset to us all. I’m very much looking forward to working alongside her as we build on SGF’s strong foundations and continue to champion the industry across Scotland.”
