Sharwood’s is joining the booming wet noodles sector with a stir-fry product that can be cooked in a wok in 90 seconds.
New Stir-Fry Noodles come in Classic and Pad Thai flavours with an rsp of £1.25 for two 200g pouches.
As will be revealed in Focus on Rice and Noodles in The Grocer next week, straight-to-wok noodles are enjoying 34% year-on-year sales growth [ACNielsen, MAT June 11, 2005] as consumers look for quicker and easier ways of rustling up a
snack or light meal. Sharwood’s new product will be competing with the likes of category leader Amoy Straight to Wok.
Helen Williams, Sharwood’s group manager, said: “Almost one and a half million stir-fry meals are eaten in the UK every day. Our new Stir-Fry Noodles taps into this need for a quick, easy and versatile stir-fry solution.”
To improve its best-selling egg noodles range, Sharwood’s is also increasing the egg content from 2.5% to 5.5% and reducing salt by 10%. The noodles have also been made more “robust”.
The egg noodles range is being produced in a wider range of pack sizes, including the brand’s first single-serve 125g size. A 750g pack and a 375g pack are also being added.
