The store has been revamped with new refrigeration, digital screens, and electronic shelf labels

Spar has won a contract from Costcutter at a campus store for Swansea University.

The store, which will now be supplied by AF Blakemore, has been revamped with new refrigeration, digital screens, electronic shelf labels, and a broader range, the Spar wholesaler said.

Its new range spans Spar’s meal deal, Philpotts sandwiches, food to go supplied by Country Choice, Iceland’s frozen range, and an expanded chilled selection.

The store replaces the longstanding Costcutter that was on site following “a competitive tender process” led by Swansea University Students’ Union, AF Blakemore said.

The union said it selected Spar for its internationally recognised brand, strong value proposition, broader product ranges and its ability to tailor a complete convenience solution to the needs of a university campus.

Store manager Emma Snaydon added that the changes had brought a noticeable uplift for customers, with the new ranges and layout making the store easier to shop and better suited to busy student routines.

AF Blakemore new business manager Stuart Ware said the project showed “exactly what Spar and Blakemore Trade Partners can deliver for universities, creating a modern convenience store that sets a new benchmark for campus retailing”.

AF Blakemore also supplies Spar stores at Essex University, Nottingham Trent University, the University of East Anglia, Nottingham University and Imperial College London.
