The Unofficial Sugar Conversion Rate has changed to 0.5818 and took effect this week. The change will mean an additional £7.56/tonne on list prices of retail and catering sugars and syrups.
The system was devised by the sugar industry as a replacement for the so-called Green Pound' in the closing months of 1998. As with the green currency system, the unofficial successor uses a series of reporting periods, adjusting as necessary if sterling moves against the euro.
In this instance, a 1.955% gap triggered the latest change.
