lets make a meal

A campaign across supermarkets to raise money for food surplus has seen UK customers raise more than last year despite the cost of living crisis.

The Let’s Make a Meal of it campaign ran across stores and online in April, with millions of customers able to donate at M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.

The campaign, which first ran in 2025, raised £500,000, which will be spent on fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and cupboard staples, some of which will be ready to feed people over the summer holidays.

The collaboration is co-ordinated by the industry’s Alliance Food Sourcing operation, which was launched in 2024 in response to King Charles’ Coronation Food Project and Britain’s biggest food redistribution charity, Felix.

Millions of customers donated online or rounded up payments at the till, with every £1 raised set to provide five meals for people who need them.

Charlotte Hill, CEO of Felix said: “Sadly, the demand amongst the charities we support is increasing, 54% said they have seen demand rise in the last year.

“This money is vital and will ensure Alliance Food Sourcing and Felix can continue to innovate and source much-needed food, so a huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Nicky Robinson, director of Alliance Food Sourcing, added: “We’re delighted to see such huge generosity from the British public. It will mean thousands more tonnes of good, surplus food will go to people going hungry across the UK, including fresh veg, protein and staples.”
